Every Mob Dark piece is solid stainless steel, either 316L or 304 depending on the piece. The grade is on the product page.
Neither is plated, hollow or coated. Neither will rust in normal wear and neither will turn your skin green.
That said, steel isn't indestructible. Here's how to keep it looking right.
The basics
Cleaning. Warm water, a drop of dish soap, a soft cloth. Rinse and dry properly. That's it. Don't leave it wet.
Storing. Keep pieces separate so they don't scratch each other. The pouch or box your order came in is fine.
Wearing. Put jewelry on last, after aftershave, moisturizer and hairspray. Take it off first at the end of the night.
What damages steel
These are the things that will actually wreck a piece, and they're not covered by the warranty:
- Chlorine. Take it off before a pool or hot tub. Chlorine attacks the surface of stainless steel and the damage isn't reversible.
- Saltwater. Rinse in fresh water straight after if you've been in the sea.
- Perfume, aftershave and hairspray. The alcohol dulls the finish over time.
- Bleach and household cleaners. Never. Not even diluted.
- Silver polish and jewelry dips. These are made for silver, not steel, and they'll strip the finish.
- Ultrasonic cleaners. Fine on plain pieces, but they can loosen set stones. Don't risk it.
Antiqued and blackened pieces
Some of our pieces have a darkened or antiqued finish sitting in the recesses. That's what gives them depth.
Don't scrub these. Wipe with a soft dry cloth only. Polishing compounds and abrasive cloths will lift the antiquing out of the detail and flatten the piece.
Scratches
Steel scratches. Everything does. On a heavy piece worn daily, marks are normal and most people think it looks better a year in.
Light surface scratches can be knocked back with a microfiber cloth. Deeper ones are part of the piece now.
Scratches and general wear aren't a manufacturing defect and aren't covered under warranty.
Gym, showering and sleeping
Gym: fine. Rinse and dry after if you sweat a lot.
Shower: fine, but soap residue builds up in the detail over time. Dry it properly.
Sleeping: fine for chains and bracelets. Rings with raised detail can catch on bedding and bend prongs. Your call.
If something goes wrong
If a clasp fails, a link separates, a piece snaps, or a stone comes loose, that's a manufacturing defect and it's covered by our lifetime warranty.
